Scenic rear disc and pads

Hi, my 2000 Scenic has just failed it's MOT on excessive wear on rear discs and pads.

Looking at the 'haynes book of lies' it looks fairly straight forward apart from the the bit regarding 'screwing the piston back into the caliper' I presume this is some king of wear adjusting mechanism?

The Haynes only shows a 'special tool' being used and does not elaborate on how to screw the piston back with out the tool.

Any advice???
