Don't know about the Clio (I've never had one),but my Vel Satis starts squawking at less than 70 miles range remaining (which I would say is around 2 gallons left). What I would be inclined to do, is to (knowing how large the tank is, and by starting off with a full tank) is to run the car until it is 3/4 full, then top up (see which was more accurate, the guage or the trip computer), then do this when the guage shows 1/2 full, and 1/4 full respectively. You should then have a clear picture of whether there's a problem or not.
