If the distributor is damaged,then this would be the first thing that I'd replace.

It is also worth seeing if you have a spark from the king lead out of the coil ,check the rotor arm for continuity and also that the distributer is actually turning as you wind the engine over on the starter.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
