Modus Front-Right Brake Squeal -- Why?
It's a 2009 diesel model; 22,000 miles only. I have tried 2 makes of front pads (Renault originals and unbranded from eBay) and both squeal at slow traffic speeds on the front-right disc only. The tone of the squeal varies between pad brands.
Tried grinding down the raised disc and pad margins but that only relieves the problem for a few days. Then the ridge returns to the discs and the sharp margins of the pads. The front-left pads never squeak and the drums on the rear are quiet. The handbrake is in good adjustment, coming on in 3 clicks.
My mechanic suggested trying more-expensive Bosch or Mintex pads but I fear there may be some mis-match of hydraulic pressure between left and right brake lines, and throwing more pad money at it might not cure the problem. Have changed the brake fluid recently and bled the lines. Plenty of copper ease behind the pads and on the pistons. Could augmenting (or removing) the shims behind the pads help?
Any ideas? It's a continual annoyance in town traffic. Thanks.
