That was silly You shouldve positioned the caliper in such a way that the piston din't pop out and have a second helper in the car to very gently depress the brake pedal until you could see movement.

Its possible you have now drawn air into the master cylinder and probably need to bleed the whole brake system rather than just the wheel you have worked on.
Hope you ensured the piston was perfectly clean and free of dust and grit before replacing it otherwise you'll damage the seals. Was the piston easy or difficult to insert back into the housing? Is it moving freely now?
