Something you may wish to check out is purchasing an aftermarket warranty which not only is cheaper than the repair you currently face, it also would allow for future unforseen costs. I know some would say its unethical to buy something like that knowing you will need to make a claim, but since the problem is intermittent - no-one will be able to say definitively how long the problem has existed.

and found them to be good. Have a look to ensure what parts are covered beforehand.
