Scenic 2 1.6VVT Maxim handbrake cable question

This is a 2005 model scenic, fitted with the electronic park brake system which has a black control box mounted in front of the drivers side rear wheel and a seperate black box unit mounted on top of the rear axle, from where the handbrake cables come out.
I would like to ask can access be gained to the unit on top of the axle, to renew only the handbrake cables which go to each caliper?
And secondly, will the main parking brake control unit need to be reprogrammed after the cables are replaced?
Is there anything I should be aware of in doing this work, that could cause the unit to require reprogramming?
