My guess is that the horizontal position pot has failed, or the wiring to it is broken. It's this pot (potentiometer or 'variable resistor') that tells the controller what position the mirror is in. The controller stores the correct resistance value in memory and knows that it should move the mirror one way if the resistance is too high, and the other if it is too low. Anyone who's familiar with building radio controlled models will recognise this as the principle that servos operate on.

As it's under warranty, you're probably looking at a new mirror unit. Ask them nicely if they'll let you keep the old one, because it might me quite easily repairable and it's always handy to have a spare.
