Yep you are right they are on tight..150lb/ft if i remember
the way i've done it in the past was to leave all the wheels
on and the car not jacked up,pull the handbrake on,leave it in gear,chock the you are ready to apply some force.
I get the required socket onto an extension bar then fit a
3 foot length of scaffold pole over the bar (here's the trick)
stand on the bar and it gives in then.

(I repeat this to tighten up as my torque wrench only goes up to 100 lb/ft).
Currently in Getafix's garage:
clean and shiny Scenic 2 1.6 16v Auto. (and a Fiat Campervan).
