Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Wheels and Tyres - Tyre Pressure Sensors - Member experiences and solution
Despite contrary opinion from main Renault dealers, it's quite possible to have a tyre changed at an independent tyre specialist without upsetting the tyre pressure sensors on your Laguna or Espace etc. As the tyre fitter to make sure that the wheel is put back on the same corner, and you should have no problems
As far as I know - If you have it disabled by Renault then the display will not show any wheels ( just the picture of the car that shows which door is open) and you will not get any voice prompts warning of failure. It will be just like a Lag without this feature fitted.
I stand corrected if I am proved wrong. I am only asuming as have not had this done on our car as tyre sensors are working ok.
I had this done by a dealer after I broke one of the valves trying to get a corroded cap off with a pair of pliers. They changed the valve on the spot, but I had several other caps corroded on (that I hadn't broken) and they couldn't sort the rest until the following Monday. They fitted the new valve but didn't program it up and temporarily disabled the system instead.
With the system disabled, the voice and display behaved as though the valves were working and the pressures were all correct. The only tell-tale difference was that the tyre pressures no longer showed for a few seconds after starting the engine. The voice synth and display still appeared to perform all of their other functions as before.
my car has just lost all of the sensors just over two weeks after having a new sensor programed by my local dealer after the tyre company snapped one
the only thing i get now is a flat tyre symbol on the dash and no tyre's shown around the car picture
not sure if i should have them reset as i dont know if i will end up paying again to have them done. :steam:
nice to have them but what a pain when it goes wrong
1. Flat tyre repaired and no problem with the sensors
2. I needed two new tyres, both replaced with no issues
I did have a chat with the guys before they made any changes and they said one you worked with the tyres and did not go near the sensors it should be fine.
The way to do this is to Inflate the missing tyres to 3.5Bar.. Then rapidly deflate them to your set level.. Then drive the car for half a mile over 12MPh..
I just had new tyres fitted all round by an independent, no problem at all. But as we rolled the f/o/s to the front of the garage we could hear a cluncking noise which turned out to be the pressure sensor had been broken off. Must have been done on original assembly as the tyres have never had a puncture. Explained to Mr Renault, who ordered a replacement, which is now fitted but I have to go to Dealer again for re-programming at a cost of £49.99+vat
After replacing my four tyres I have solved my troubles with the tyre sensors,my computor now shows vehicle without tyres, but that is no problem. Can anyone help in telling me how to get the yellow dash light related out.I pursued in removing dash but was to scared to remove multi-plug from dash because of any other problems that might occur in removing. My initial thoughts were to remove dash and try to remove bulb.If any members can help with information I would be grateful.
As tyre sensors go I have been very lucky so far with both my Lag 2's.I had my first experience with a puncture that I had repaired at my local Renault dealer (left loose wheel with them) when I put it back on , wheel sensor wasn't recognised by the car. Dealer sorted it while I waited foc (all part of the puncture repair charge £12 as I recall). Second instance was while motorway driving in torrential rain the whole sensor system announced it had failed, that cured itself the next day. I assumed the box under the rear wheel arch dried out. On a more positive note the service manager at the dealer that I bought my current s/h car from has been notching up brownie points with me. The latest was when I recently needed front tyre replacements. I supplied a brand new wheel with tyre fitted (standard valve) and a new tpm, he fitted them to one side (I’d kerbed the original wheel) and he price matched on a new tyre for the other side, done while I waited including all the balancing, tpm setting up and he only charged me the price of the new tyre.
Can I clarify somthing the tip you have given . If you get a new sensor if you do the above would it still need programming ??
If you have discovered how to do this then this is a top find because last time i had a new sensor it cost me £88 to be programmed and £16 for the sensor
I am considering buying an oct 2002 laguna, 1.9 dci, is this a laguna II? It has a problem where it stalls occasionally whilst pulling away at a junction, i am sure there could be many reasons for this, they was some work done on a diesel filter or something in the fuel system which apparently helped. Any comments would be appreciated about Pro's and con's of laguna, i like the gadgets but am afraid of the problems especially getting ripped of by renault dealers.
Finally got around to taking a picture of the tyre sensor colour coded chart which Lag II ( post 2001 ) owners should see on their drivers ( UK ) door..
Still interested to learn if the above method for a manual ( i.e. non clip aided ) reset works please ???
Would our members please take caution with the reset advice until a reply has been confirmed..
Recently purchased the "I've snapped my valve" T-Shirt and bought a new one from an independent with the advice that he's pretty sure it will automatically configure itself 'after a while' (bit of a sucker for such an assurance!). Has this actually worked for anyone as by the sounds of it I'm not the only one to get this type of advice?
Apologies if this has already been posted. These sensors are driving me mad. N/side rear tyre is showing as having a slow puncture (the indicator is flashing.) Have taken tyre off and is no puncture. Ordered and replaced sensor and valve but tyre is still went down. Upon contacting Renault, my independent was told it was to do with corrosion on the alloy wheel itself which then causes the valve ( or something like that, I don't quite understand) to have a hairline fracture. Been told the only way to correct this permanently is to buy a new wheel? They also suggested as a temporary measure to use a sealant which should hold for about 6 months. Independent tried that and lasted 2 days. What the ***k ??
All alloy wheels will oxidise and corode over a period of time.
The Renault "Silverstone" wheel is becoming famous for it tho
I have my O/S front doing the same at the minute. I have removed the tyre from the rim and given it a good going over with a sanding disc to remove oxidisation. So far since its been put back on its holding out ok
Front one on my dads 52 plate is playing up AGAIN.
This is the third time in a year (ont he same wheel, which has had the sensor replaced be Renault). Normally flashes to say its low pressure, but whilst i was driving it today it now says its flat.
Is there a way to reset them yourself (other than over inflate then deflate) or even just disable the damn things?
According to my display i'm driving on just my two rear wheels because when i bought the car the two front alloys were badly buckled so he swapped them for two from a later Lag that dont have the sensors, Renault want £35 notes each for two more and then the cost of fitting and putting them on via the computer, the rear nearside has a very slow puncture and constantly comes up, i want them there but the cost of something i've done without fine for years is just silly.
I'm undecided as to if they're a good idea or not?
Cheap Looking Gadget to Reset/Recognise Tyre Presssure Sensors ?
I found this on google. Looks like a stand alone gadget designed to do a reset (recognise new sensor) of these tyre sensors. Doesn't say how much it is - it doesn't look much. Perhaps we could reasonably expect more and more independents to have one and that this resetting nonsense (scam) may eventualy become a routine and near costless part of a valve/tyre change.
When I say CHEAP I was thinking in terms of an independent tyre shop buying it rather than individual owners and if its £117 I think that qualifies as cheap for them - as having it means that owners of Renaults with tyre sensors will go to them rather than to main dealers...
Looking again I realise that this thing only works if you have a Bosch Diagnostic/servicing system. However, all Bosch service centres (and some independents) do and £117 can't be that much for them as it does other Renaults, BMW's and several other makes too I think).
I rang a Bosch dealer in Leicester who told me that it is possible to reset these things manually - i.e. yourself without any special equipment.... but didn't explain how... Is that true?
I bought the Haynes manual for the Laguna II and thats no use on this either (it tells you how to remove the control unit - unbolt it and unplug it - thanks for that insight Haynes...
