As long as you pointed out the damage and they saw the car ( as it appears they have) when you exchanged it, they can't expect you to pay for any more damage they find. It is up to them to inspect the car beforehand, as it is up to you to inspect your car before you buy it. If you since find a dent on your new car and go back to the garage to repair it, you know what the answer will be from them!
I am not a legal expert & if I was you I would contact Trading standards for further advice on this one. Then you can write to the garage concerned with all the correct, relevant facts.
Just out of interest, was it a main dealer or an independant garage? Was the only time they saw the vehicle in the dark?
