Excellent post TazzyK. My own experiences today might be of some help to others. I carried out a few repairs to my own display. The symptoms were: coolant temperature display absent and intermittent backlights on right hand side of display (radio info).
The temp display problem was cured by removing the top cover of the display, removing the flexible tape feeding the coolant temp display LCD, cleaning the contacts on the flexible tape, then replacing the tape making sure it was really well located in its connector.
The flexible tape on the back of the display feeding the backlights with current was kinked in one spot where it bends upwards (90 degrees) near the bulb locations. This was cured by hard wiring across the break. The display now functions like new. Thanks again for the pics.
