Renault Clio 1.6 RXE Speedo (1998 model)
I sold my 1998 Clio 1.6 RXE to my Dad about 18 months ago.
He tells me that the speedo sometimes drops to 0 MPH when driving along. It also stops clocking up the mileage whilst it is reading zero.
The speedo will then 'bounce' back in to life and things are okay for a few miles, then back to 0 MPH again.
I suggested that he has a look for a dry joint on the speedo head.
Before I send him in to tear the thing to pieces, is it safe for him to remove the speedo from the car - or will some form of re-programming be required by the Renault computer when the unit is installed back in the car?
There are no other warning lights (such as ABS fault) coming on when the speedo dies.
May be someone else has had this on their car and can suggest a fix.
Thanks in advance for any information.
