Well prior to having my first Laguna, I've never had the same make of car twice, let alone the same model, so they must be doing something right. My cars to date have been:
1979 Audi 100 2.1 GL5e (a real rustbucket and money pit to boot, but always good for a laugh when you tried to buy five spark plugs from Halfords.)
1983 MkIII Ford Escort 1.3L (it makes me shudder just thinking about it.)
1990 MkII Vauxhall Astra 1.6L (my first repmobile - a good, solid if bland car, spoiled by incompetent and indifferent dealers.)
1993 Mazda 323F 1.6 GLX-ABS (my favourite. A few problems, but a dealer that'd bend over backwards to fix them. I'd have gone back if Ford hadn't stopped them from making interesting cars just before mine was due for replacement.)
1995 Renault Laguna RXE 2.0 (I actually got this one 'second-hand' after the previous user left the company. I really didn't want it, and didn't think I'd like it, but it probably turned out to be the best car I've ever had, reliability wise at least.)
1998 Renault Laguna RXE 2.0 (an ex-demonstrator and, I thought, trouble on wheels until I got the next one...)
2002 Renault Laguna II Privilege 2.0IDE (you name it, it's gone wrong, but I'm still like it.)
2005 Renault Laguna II Initiale 1.9dCi 130 (coming soon... I hope. I really wanted this to be a Peugeot 407 Executive, but the lease costs were silly, even for what amounted to a lower spec car.)

I find Renaults are comfortable, even on long journeys, and they have lots of 'toys', which is a major selling point to me. I've never cared much for image (that's not to say I wouldn't have a 3 series if you threw it in my direction, but I'd take a fully loaded Laguna over a poverty spec 3 series any day of the week, and the prices are about the same.) I like the design of the front of my current Laguna - not too bland, but not too aggressive (though I think the rear looks a little like a squashed Vauxhall Omega.) I think the new 'Meganified' one has lost a lot of its character, but it's far from ugly, and I think it'll grow on me.

Dealer service is not as good as Mazda, but miles ahead of Ford and Vauxhall. My regular dealer (Renault Manchester) has failed to live up to my expectations on occasion, but I think they've just been a victim of their own success at times, and have struggled to keep up with the workload.

But yes, I was ready to vote with my feet and buy Peugeot if the price had been right, mostly because I fell head over heels with the looks of the 407 (strange, because I normally don't go for aggressive looking cars) but also because of the amount of trouble I've had with this Laguna. I'd even gone around telling people I'd have to be a mug to go for another Laguna... and now look what I'm doing. I just hope that they have sorted out the quality issues as they claim. I'm far too well known at both Renault Manchester and Lookers in Chester, just because the flamin' thing keeps breaking down, losing fluids or needing tyre sensors.

2010 Laguna III Initiale.
