I once came across a program that supposedly converted Commodore 64 SID tunes to MIDI. Some of them were just about recognisable, but they were all pretty lousy. If that can't be done, then converting 'real' music is probably a non-starter.

WMA is a compressed 'digitised' audio format, like MP3. It records a real performance and compresses it by stripping out the data that us humans (supposedly) won't notice is missing. MIDI, on the other hand, is basically the computer equivalent of sheet music. It's easy enough to convert from MIDI to WAV, MP3, WMA etc. (all you have to do is 'play' the music and record the result) but the other way round is a nightmare. Many have tried, but I've yet to see anyone succeed.
