Do the other indicators light up, i.e. the temp etc.?
In very cold weather the system can take a while to get going, it waits for you to drive a bit to warm the engine up and then gradually increases the fan speed. This is to prevent it from blasting icy cold air at you. The fan speed and vent icons do not appear initially until the sytem decides where to direct the air.
The reverse happens in hot weather, it waits a while to allow the interior to cool a bit, so it doesn't blast hot air at you.
If the temp display shows on the climate panel then this is quite normal.
