Thanks for the various answers and pieces of advice from you all, presumably the red warning light and buzzer problem has never occured when I have changed wheels at home because only one wheel is off the ground at a time as opposed to when the garage has it on a ramp, though if the system is so sensitive I would thought that could cause problems at an MOT test when they have either axle jacked up to check wheel bearings etc.

On the subject of MOT and the Handbrake On/Off display I contacted VOSA and their definitive response is as long as the message changes from On to Off that is sufficient for a pass, whether it goes back to mileage and trip display or not is of no consequence so I shall print off their response and have it handy for the net MOT test
