Getting to know your instrument panel lights is also recommended. Things like brake warning lights can be a failure of any part of the system (on older Meganes the brake warning light tended to flicker on and off, well it did on mine, anyway). If the battery warning light illuminates while driving, the alternator has probably failed, or is about to. (This happened to me once, and I told the breakdown service what the problem was, when I called it in).
