Re: Renault Scenic 1 - Roof Bar Fitting Information

Roof rails will be factory fit. Given that you haven't got them just get normal roof bars (for the car without roof rails).

I am just finding things out myself about this car and what I know is. Just pull them from front to back or get your thumbs under and push them out working your way allong. They go back easy, just line them up and thump them down. I found that mine had been glued down by who ever, If you do that don't use ever build. This is a while after your question but someone may read it.Hope it helps.

Re: Renault Scenic 1 - Roof Bar Fitting Information

I have a 2003 Scenic 1.4 Fidji. Contrary to what some people are saying, it is not too bad a job fitting roof bars to this model. I bought a set off EBay for about 45 and except for a bit of missing trim they are fine and the locks all work - after applying a bit of oil .
You have to take off the full length roof strips (where fitted) and underneath you'll find the gutter that the strip is pressed into contains a number of pre-machined shapes up and down the whole length. This means that the roof brackets can be fitted to at least three different positions. The roof strips may have been smeared with a tacky putty/sealant before they were fitted originally. Clean this off where required and the brackets just fit into these machined shapes quite easily. You could then do i) leave them as they are, ii) cut the strips to fit around the roof bar brackets (a good hacksaw will do this quite easily) or iii) Go to a Renault main dealer and buy new strips that contain slideable strips to suit, but will cost you magabucks.

I've cut mine to fit the gaps around the roof brackets and they are fine. The whole job took me about and hour and a half.

Good luck.

Re: Renault Scenic 1 - Roof Bar Fitting Information

Hello
Pretty late in the day to post but just had a Thule over-door kit fitted by Halfords because they told me there was no other type. DON'T DO IT. The tops of the doors bend out, they need a hard slam to close and then spring open in a dodgy way. The rain now drips in onto my leather upholstery! The brackets deform the door seal and scuff the paint on the insides of the doors. It is only a matter of time before one of the locks or handles breaks.
I am waiting to hear back from Thule about how they can justify this nonsense, especially when a Scenic identical to mine passed me today with a set of bars fixed using fixed points....
I will post an answer as soon as I get one.

Re: Renault Scenic 1 - Roof Bar Fitting Information

Hi

Just fitted new trims and bars from Renault - see photo. Massive improvement to Thule stuff I had before. Removed the rubber strips, cleaned off the mastic with white spirit and tapped the new trims into place. Bars are the correct length, bolts, wrench and keys all supplied, fitted the whole lot in 15 minutes with no swearing or lacerated fingers or paintwork.

My advice - don't mess about with other stuff - go direct to Renault, give them the VIN number off the windscreen and pay less than you would at Halfords for Thule rubbish that bends the doors and lets the rain in.
