Renault Scenic - Engine Indentification And Changing Reg Document

I've just bought a '99 1600 scenic for her indoors and I'm a little puzzled by the engine.

The car is the early shape alize and we bought it thinking it's a 16v, but having done some research it appears that the 16v engine didn't appear until the later shape.

Our insurance company have the registation of the car listed as a 16v, so the DVLC must have it registered as a 16v.

So this means renault must have registered the car incorrectly when new!

Anyone else come across this?

Can renault be held to blame? We are the third owners and everyone must have thought they were buying the 16v.

How do I change the DVLC listing, as the 8v is cheaper to insure?

Cheers farmermo

ps. engine code K7M

If it's a K7M,then it's definately 8 valve.....

Incorrect details on the registration document is pretty common, but if you haven't already,I'd have an HPi check done just to make sure everything is as it should be.Your car is on the change date,so it could be an honest mistake,or it could be something slightly more sinister...

I'd definately contact the DVLA(Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) and see how you can change the documentation.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
