Unhappy Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Hi chaps,
Just bought a 51 plate Scenic 1.6 16v and have a couple of intermittant problems with it. Firstly cold starting is a pain, the engine starts quickly but then dies off. It starts second attempt but I need to keep the revs up for a couple of seconds.
Secondly I intermittantly get what appears to be 'missing' from the engine but only when taken over 3000 rpm or so, sometines the engine warning light flashes and the after a while it resets.
I have receipts to say that the coils were all replaced 20k miles ago and also front and rear lambda sensors.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Many thanks

Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Hi,

I have a 1.4 Megane I (02), and every 4 - 6 months one or two [not sure, but replace both anyway] of the ignition coils go. What could be the problem? I am assuming its got something to do with the car electrics, but that wouldn't account for them lasting so long, because if it was an electrical fault they would blow as soon as they are installed?

I get them from eBay and have tried Valeo, Pulse8 and Sagem, and have just ordered 4 more of some other brand... all of them have blown within 4 - 6 months of being installed. They aren't that expensive, but when doing them so often it adds up!!

Any help appreciated, thanks :D

Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

well i think this thread just saved me around 100+

just got car back from garage (an other story ) drove to the shops 7miles away done shopping went to drive home got out car park car kangarooed then emission check light came on so up road and on to here found this thread removed all the coil 's and sniffed them yes SNIFFED them found 2nd coil had an acrid smell (smell this a lot at work with u/s actuator coils ) so phoned local motor fit and got one for 27.90 plus VAT fitted and problem solved.

Thats my cars 3 strikes in the last fortnight :

1st rear indicator 1.98
2nd o/s/f window motor and regulator (thats the other story) 325
3rd second coil pack 27.90

Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Hi ive had my 03 scenic for exactly a week and yesterday i suffered the dreaded "toxic fume" light , after abit of googling i found these forums which have proved very helpful and even saved me money !

I was suffering many of the symptoms of failed coils such as engine cut out at idle, poor engine performance (especially uphill) very poor fuel consumption, spluttery excelleration

I replaced all four coils last night and noticed an improvement instantly BUT and heres my question..........

The toxic fumes light did not go out, i unplugged the battery and left it off over night but that did not fix the issue

is this light ment to go off by itself ? does it go off instantly or over time ? or is there a way to reset it that wont cost me a trip to a dealership ?

Ok maybe i spoke to soon, just nipped to the shop and had some noticable stutter driving up the road

Im going to try a fuel treatment and see if that helps
