Exclamation Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Sorry me again

Getting more and more concerned about this light that is still on!

Had a busy weekend, done the following;

  • Replace all 4 coils one by one
  • Changed the oil/oil filter/spark plugs/coolant
  • Checked all wire/connections etc in the engine bay
  • Disconnected the battery for ours on end to reset the light.
  • Have bought some redex to add to the fuel tank when I fill up
Light still on. Have only had the car 8 weeks. Its done 55,000 miles, was off the road from Dec 09 (was a Cat D) and in 8 weeks we have done 2500 miles. Its running like a dream (touch wood!), no misfiring/poor starting/poor economy.

Any help would be good, not sure if i need to replace lambda sensors?? Tried to check them but have no idea how to remove.

In the meantime I have bought a kit to plug the car into my laptop with the relevant software which i'm hoping will tell me what's wrong.(probably won't be much use!)

As much as I love the Scenic (like alot!) I am missing Ford ownership right now

Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Hi all,

... so apparantly I'm not the only one with this problem ...

Engine warning light went on, the engine was running just on three pots.
So I changed a faulty coil (yes, the second from left) - now the engine is running on four cylinders again but does not have any power.
The idle is much to low and the engine shuts off when the car stops.
The engine warning light is still on.
And I think I can hear a mechanical clicking sound from the engine bay.

Any idea if the faulty coil could have damaged any other part that causes the new problems?
What could I check?

Thank you from a Renault Rookie!
Regards
Rob

Talking Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Finally fixed mine

Was a combination of an airflow sensor thing on the throttle body playing up (replaced with one from a scappy for 1!). Fault deleted

The second problem was a bit more annoying as I deleted the fault 3 times and it kept coming back. Turned out it was caused by the Redex in the fuel tank! Will never again do that, made the car run rich (we are talking 15mpg on a run - from a 1.4 16v!!!)

All done with the 14,99 bit of kit I got from ebay (elm-327-car-diagnostics-usb-to-vagcom-fault-code-cable)

Has any-one bought any of these coils off eBay from autoelectricsuk for £35 inc postage?
Seems very cheap to me, but quite possibly o.k. though.
