>anyone got any other ideas?
I picked up a very cheap (15) diagnostic scanner from ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...d=843025302016) a little while ago, it works fine on my 2002 scenic 1.6 auto petrol. It uses the ISO9141 protocol, so if you look for a scanner then you need it to support that protocol (unless I picked up a scam model of course).
It should tell you a code that will give a clue as to the cause of a fault, once you look throught the book of codes of course!
Other cheap things to look at would be cleaning the filters, making sure there is the right quantity of engine oil , the spark plugs are well gapped and clean, the TDC sensor is clear of metallic bits, earth strapping is refreshed (loosen, wiggle, tighten), wipe away surface moisture...
err - ok probably enough for now - I'm off to read a bedtime story to little'un.

check emissions light came on today but the car is running fine ---all four coils were changed in January.

We only drive round town and car rarely goes more than 4 miles a trip. Is it likely coils have gone again so quickly ---8000 miles done since change

Maybe a carbon build-up? only doing short trips isn't good - diesels with particulate filters for instance are notorious for causing problems with just short trips.

Try a decent blast up a motorway and see if the light changes - or try putting some Redex in your fuel.
Putting Redex in the carb every so often used to be the thing to do, but it didn't half used to make a mess :-), sorry :-(

Obviously the warning light came on for some reason so it may be well investigating why. A few quid spent now may save you money in the future.

If it were mine I would be checking the colour of the spark plugs usually a good method of checking if an engine is misfiring or mis-fueling. Also check for signs of damp, etc.

Yes it is possible for a coil to have failed in such a relatively short time. I have seen them fail after 3 months in some cases but there usually was a contributing factor as in one case damp had got around the ignition wiring, etc.

Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Hi there,
My wife drove our 2001(51) plate scenic to work this morning and all of a sudden a light on the dashboard came on. The light remains on even as at now when i have just gone to start it. Below is a pic of the light on the dash, could someone please say if this is the EML and would the problem be with one of the coils .
Many thanks
