the exhaust gas monitoring light has come on. This is an indicator that looks like an engine. The manual says take it to a Renault dealer.
Has anyone any idea what this means? It sounds expensive...
i had faulty coils only one but then the rest went it was running as if it was in the wrong gear replaced them and the spark plugs was running fine then in the mornings it wouldn't start without being bumped or towed or run down the street with now different from the coils one thing after another

Appears mine may have gone today on my 'new' 54 plate Grand Scenic, suddenly emissions light came on on dash and car lost power and was lumpy. It was extremely wet this morning so perhaps that had something to do with it?

Anyway seeing as I have only had car for a week, used car garage is going to look into it, I'll keep you posted.

Question Scenic MkII - Variation on fault coil pack.

Hi
I currently have a 2004 Renault Scenic 1.6 16v Auto (Petrol) that is starting to cause me some concern regarding the coil packs.

Whenever I start driving the car on a dual-carriageway or motorway the engine will go into safe mode and the "Check Injection" message displayed on the computer. After turning-off and turning back-on the engine all is fine and the above message disappears. Generally this is after 10-15 minutes driving but has sometimes happened after a couple of hours driving, so can not say for definate that it happens when the engine is cold.

After this happened a couple of times I took the car to my local garage and they put a diagnostic computer on the car, the message "PO303 - Cylinder 3 misfire" is given (taken on Reflex 3130 diagnostic computer). The car has only done 20,000 miles and the coil packs were replaced by Nationwide Autocenters in Jan. 08 using Bremi 20111 coils (8,000 miles ago).

Is this simply a case that the offending coil needs replacing or is there another underlying problem (Spark plug, Injection unit or EDU etc). Having read the various discussion forums on the Renault Scenic coil packs I get the impression that once a coil pack goes down then the engine will not function normally until the coil pack is replaced, and turning the engine off/on will do little to correct the problem, this is different to the behaviour that I am seeing.

Many thanks for any replies received. /Mike

Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

I'm under the impression that it is essential to use Renault own brand of sparkplug as this could be the cause of the coils failing. 4 plugs cost about 20 quid.
Check the brand of plug used.

Re: Renault Scenic - Faulty Coils Causing Warning Light(Including General Info)*fixed

Hi all advice needed please, 53 plate 1.8 scenic, yesterday the emisions warning light came on! I have had ignition coil problems before.I am assuming this is the problem. However there is very little or no juddering, the car seems to be running well. I am capable of doing the job myself, but which coil is the offender? I've tried taking each lead off to see which one doesn't cause a change in the engine tick over, but they all make it run lumpy once the electrical connection is removed.Would I be best buying a new coil and changing each one in turn till I get the culprit? cheers in advance fattony
