All Renault dampers are sh1te.

I had the front left on the 182 go at 9K it took Renault 9 attempts to find the fault with the front end and they still missed it. It only came out what the problem was when i had the suspension ripped off and replaced with a professional race set up.

The front left damper had a burst seal and was so sloppy you could pull the ram in and out with ease like an accordion.

Renault still wouldn't believe me or fix it under warranty unless I had it all put back together and took it to them to have a look at.
Well after 9 trips to the dealers and being told several times all clio's are like that; I wasn't going to pay the 100 labour costs to have it all put back together and be told once again it was fine. If only they had checked it properly in the first place***8230; all it took was a look up under the dirt shield to see there was a problem.

I also had both rear dampers burst on me at 14K. Renault told me it wasn***8217;t covered by the warranty***8230; I told them I wasn***8217;t going to buy new dampers every 14K. In the end they replaced them under warranty after a nasty phone call to Renault UK.

As much as I love Renaults it really does make you wonder why they ruin such good cars with all the stupid little faults that could easily be avoided, yet they still seem to incorporate into every model and revision of the cars.

Out of the 3 clios I***8217;ve had all of them leaked, all had problems with the passenger seat, all had problems with the sunroof and the suspension***8230; and usually it was always the same fault.

Gerrr !

We've just replaced ANOTHER broken rear shock on a Scenic this week!.

I think we ought to be keeping one in stock just in case!.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

I've just replaced the rear shocks on my wife's 98 Scene 1.6 Alize, due to one snapping.

Thanks for the info here. It was a great help.

Question 99 renault scenic _ with a strange knocking sound

car went to the dealer yesterday.....we had a phonecall to pick up the car today and got a for $170 NZD for

1)diagnosing tje power steering arm leak, which was already established by the same mechanic last month at a different workshop(renault changed dealers on 1st jan) for @ $30

2)I suggested to the dealer when we dropped the car off yesterday that I thought the Left rear shock absorber was broken.....and today we had the pleasure of $140 bill for diagnosing a broken shock and a quote for $700 + GST NZD to replace the rear shocks........WTF

sorry for my reaction .....but dos this sound like legalised robbery??

anyways I have rung a couple shock shops to get a quote for replacement of both rear shocks....I am looking forward to seeing what the quotes are......

The power steering arm is covered under the extended warranty so I am happy with that

Look forward to peoples thoughts.....

Have a go yourself, its not difficult. What you are being charged is a complete ripoff. Two new shock absorbers for the rear would be about $130NZD by my calculations. Once the wheel is off and the car jacked up, you only need to remove 2 bolts to replace the shock.
