Thanks for the feed-back. Please keep the forum informed of your outcome with the dealer and hopefully a fix. Could you please give me as much detail as possible before I go back to my dealer.

Hi, update time,
My car has been in dealer for past 4 days and i received an update today..........

A new gearbox is required!

9 months old

4700 miles.

Seriously not impressed!

After quizing them for what was exactly at fault, all i got was
'after a series of tests which gave a number of fault codes that were discussed with Renault UK, we were told to replace the whole gearbox'

So i'm afraid i can't enlighten anyone to the actual cause of the jolt.

It certainley doesn't say much for Renault's build quality!

Not happy with my automatic gearbox!

I have the same problem with my renault scenic 1.6 automatic gearbox registered 2002. I bought it last year and it has only 35 000 miles on the clock. The Auto warning light comes on every time I go up a steep hill on the way to my son's school and the car stays in safe mode, so I can not accelerate. When I turn the ignition off and on again, the problem rectifies itself. I took the car to the local renault dealer who told me they had never heard of this problem but having searched both the British and the French websites I know that this is not true as we are all talking about it. The garage did a check and they have said that it is a faulty valve at the front of the gearbox which can be replaced at a cost of 384. They have said they have replaced a few and the problem disappears (I thought they had never heard of it before????!!!!) I phoned Renault customer services today as I believe they have produced a car with a faulty part that they should be replacing free of charge but I was given a very frosty response and told that Renault UK and France are not accepting any responsibility for this problem. He admitted that everyone is talking about it. What can we do?

Autobox faults

I have a 96 Espace auto ,with over 100,000 on the clock it developed a similar fault as some of the new Scenics, it started going into default mode when hot .if I stopped and turned of the ignition and restarted the problem was rectified .I spoke to a private Renault specialist who told me that if it continues I should disconnect one of the battery leads for 10 mins. and this would reset the control unit , it worked for a while but eventualy I had to have the transmision rebuilt with new control solenoids (£1200) and now 13mths. later the fault has just started exactly the same way. I am now contemplating replacing the solenoids myself if I can track down a workshop manual for the auto box I dont suppose anybody happens to have one do they .Its a shame as the Espace is a very versitile family car .I suppose the point of this thread is that after 11 years Renault still can not make a good auto box . If anyone knows the exact cause for this proplem I would love to here about it , as Espaces with auto box problems are very cheap. To much wishfull thinking I suppose.
