Re: Renault Scenic - Engines - Cam Belt Change

My Handbook for my 03 Renault Scenic Mk1 PhII 1.9dti states the cambelt and tensioners should be changed at 45,000 miles. Had mine done at 70 and 140k! Advisable to do accessories belt and water pump at same time.

For what its worth, you do not necessarily need specialist tools, just common sense and good tools to hand.I,ve just done the cambelt change for the price of the belt only,30.Water pump not needed.

Re: Renault Scenic - Engines - Cam Belt Change

The 2002 Ph2 dCi 1.9 I bought 3 weeks ago had its cambelt done at 61,000 miles, that was 3 years ago, so I have 2 years until I need to get it done, if I still have it by then. Since it was done, another 20,000 miles on the clock. Based on the mileage I've done so far, I estimate I'll do 10-12,000 a year.

My previous Scenic (2000) lasted 4 months from the day I bought it, due to shredded aux belt and snapped cambelt. Not pretty. And not the first time I've had it happen to me, long story for another time.

You really should be having the timing belt kit, aux belt kit, camshaft and crankshaft fixings replaced... at the very minimum. I'd also recommend you have the water pump changed to.

Re: Renault Scenic - Engines - Cam Belt Change

I've got Scenic 2005 with 52000 on clock and dealer service history/stamps in book from the M... in S.London.
An interesting thing, apparently it hasn't got the cambelt changed yet and after I asked seller why, as even if 72K not reached it's passed 5th year, the seller called the dealer and asked himself.
The dealer told him "because it hasn't reached 72000 miles)" and without mentioning the second rule of 5 years.

I wonder, why an authorized dealer wouldn't mentioned that, a just dealers' sloppiness?
Having longish experience with Skoda dealers in London, I'd expect dealers to drag clients in for cambelt change even if it is not necessary yet

No wonder I can't find any of the London dealers on the Recommended garages list

I'm going to replace it ASAP anyway (kudos to very honest seller who cut off 250 from the car price as he understood something is not right, we need more fair play like that these days!)

Can anyone recommend where to replace the cambelt in/around North London (the area apparently not covered by the Recommended garages)?
Unfortunately, my old-good local mechanic is strictly VAG specialist :-(
