Re: Renault Scenic 2 - Rear Brake Pad Replacement

The caliper mounting bracket bolts and the caliper retaining bolts aren't the same thing.

Re: Renault Scenic 2 - Rear Brake Pad Replacement

I know that, which is why I mentioned it.

However, I have now woken up and re-reading your post I see that you are referring to the bolts in the pad set whichare of course guide pin bolts.

I read it wrong because one part of the thread was talking about replacing the disc, which needs the mounting bolts removed and it was asked why only 2 bolts were supplied for what would be a 4 bolt job.

I'm not the only one asleep though, even the chap at my Renault dealer was confused as to which bolts were the mounting bolts. It was hard to explain over the telephone to him, but when I said that the guide pins have a little rubber bellow on them, he was able to look at a diagram and could see that wasn't the ones I wanted. At least, that should be the case, we'll see what arrives in the post.

2x bolts and 1 x hub nut was 6 with VAT. It was another 9 for the hub nut cap , so I will re-use the old one.

As the mounting bolts are not going to come off easily due to the heads being fooked, I am probably going to wimp out on this one and get a local garage to do it. Much better than crouching in the cold and wet for hours, cussing.

Re: Renault Scenic 2 - Rear Brake Pad Replacement

Many thanks Gonescenile for the info and pics for this job - I did it last weekend without any hassle - even thought I would have to fork out a few quid for a tool to turn the piston back, but my local autosave had the exact one for 16.00 - result

all in all a very easy job - took about a hour to do.

I noticed that on one caliper, the piston went back in no problem and the rubber dust cover/seal also retracted back cleanly - on the other brake caliper it appeared more twisted, once it was retracted? is this normal? or does it mean that it is maybe sticking and likely to tear in the future?

also, I normally coppagrease (on me landy's) the bolts that hold the caliper into the carrier - but I noticed that the ones that came with the new pads, had the blue loctite stuff on them so I didn't grease them - is not greasing them the done thing?

Thanks again

Glad the guide was of use.

You're maybe thinking about greasing the slides as you used to do on some older type calipers. As you stated the bolts come with loctite applied so need nothing else.

Job done now.
No wonder the bolts were knackered. They were torx bolts and the old owner had tried to use a hex spanner on them before me.
