Hi there everyone.

I'm a brand new user to this and wondered if anyone can help me.

I have a 4 year old renault megane scenic and the boot lock fell out last month.

I called renault and they said they have never hear of this happening. I was quoted £50 for a new black boot lock and £17 to have it sprayed to matdch the colour of my car!

I have since seen a few scenics with 'black' boot locks and my friends has also since fallen out.

Does anyone else have this problem and do u know if there was ever a recall on these?

I'd love to hear from you all.

Boot button on Scenic

My button fell out several weeks ago so I have been keeping it in the glove box until I need to use it. I was quoted £117 plus VAT for a silver button fitted, or £40 plus VAT to buy a black button and DIY from the dealer! Not sue how to DIY as there is a panel to remove. Any ideas?:steam:

Boot Button Failure

All you need is a little time patience and a suitable rubber 'O' ring.
Remove the mechanism, then with a small amount of investigation you will quickly see how the lock works. There is a plastic stem with a recess where the 'O' ring fits. JHob sorted.:)

boot release catch

Hi
The same happened to my scenic, didn't know it was a rubber ring, ill have a look around the breakers and see if i can get another catch then use the seal.
If anyone knows where to get the clips without buying the whole catch please let me know.

Mike :(

hi didn't notice the other replies, has certainly helped, will sort it tomorrow

Hi,
Yes my boot lock button fell out too but I went to Halfords and bought a little pack of 'o' rings and used one to put on the end of the post that goes from the button into the mechanism - you have to take the internal cover off the tailgate to do this but it's quite easy - we did ours in about 45 minutes (once I'd got the 'o' rings and it's been perfectly satisfactory ever since

An old post O know but if anyone searches maybe this will help! Mine popped out. If you remove the trim from the inside of the tailgate and remove the bolts holding the lock you can remove the unit from the door. I found that replacing the plastic retaining ring with a medium gauge florists wire - or any type of wire of sufficient thickness, I just happened to have florists wire to hand - prevents the button from falling out.

Florists wire is great, many thickness' and made of aluminium so doesn't rust AND it comes in funky colours!

Scenic tailgate button repair

Hi im new to the forum and recently had a problem with my tailgate button decided to pop out luckly i didnt loose it,After a little time i realised this was a very easy fix and only cost pence to fix instead of renaults £££££££
This is how i did it and it took me about 1 hour from start to finish.
First get a o ring to replace the broken one and a pack of r pins got mine from motorworld.
remove your inside panels from the tailgate 4 size 20 torx head screws then just pull panel off then disconnect the electrical plug from the central locking motor on the tailgate lock undo the motor from the lock body, Then undo the 2 nuts holding the lock body to the tailgate and remove lock body then refit your button dont forget the spring and grease push the button in and put the new o ring on the back of the button in the groove it is then secure now to make sure you never loose the button if the o ring breaks again.
Look at the section of the button behind the new o ring right on the end of the inside button drill a small hole using a 1/16 inch drill from about the eleven 25 position be careful to go straight through, Now you will need your small r pins pick the smallest that will fit through the hole and over the outside of the back of the button now you have to cut the legs off the r pin you will see why in a minute. Now remove the modified r pin but keep safe and refit the lock body to the tailgate and refit the central locking motor.Once fitted refit the r pin and check it is not catching the button mechanism if ok reconnect the electrical connector to the motor and test then refit all panels removed and job done and no chance of loosing the tailgate button.
I hope this helps im no mechanic and it was very easy and probably worth doing even if your button hasnt come out yet because beleive me it will and if you loose it renault will say thank you thats ££££££££££££

I know this is an old thread but my reply may be helpful to other owners suffering the same problem.

This happened to me and, fortunately, the lock fell out on the drive so I did not lose it. If you are lucky enough to recover the lock, there was a chap selling repair kits on e-bay for about a fiver. The kit includes a rubber cushion ring and circlip plus detailed instructions (including a helpline). Don't know if he's still advertising but worth a try.

I'm not much use with cars but a pal of mine is and it took him about an hour to fix (quite a fiddly job and the only out of the ordinary tool you need is small external circlip pliers).

No problems since and saved me a few quid.

Hope this helps.

Yep he is, I saw his jobbie on there, I contacted him to ask what you get for your money but I got a vague answer back. Is he just giving an O ring in the pack as he claims:

My modification is A 100% BRITISH permanent repair to fix this FRENCH design problem and should be applied to all Scenic boot lock buttons that are new or second hand before it is too late
Does anyone have a picture of the spring as we've lost ours and the new button didn't come with a spring, I just need the length etc so I can get something that is about the right size to replace it !
