The digital display dash continuosly flickers when driving and causes the stop warning light to come on! Also, this then keeps adding miles to the clock. In the last week it has added 11000 miles to clock. Any ideas what the problem is before i go to this is so I have some idea before i go to the dealer

I have had this problem for 7 weeks now. I did a lot of research on this and it is a very common problem with scenics. I elected to use a firm called :censored:
They refurbish your original cluster for around £190. Or this is what I was led to beleive!
Please check out my dealings with this firm before using them yourself!!!

Dispute is on going with :censored:
Thought people may be interested to see what sort of people are running this outfit!! This is a copy of correspondense between them and myself. I have just reported them to Ebay abuse department. Read this and you decide?
Dear lewyharvey,

its not being held to ransom but we have to treat arseholes like you like this as we know you cry like a baby when something is not right. Your woman at home must be giving alot of ¤¤¤¤ for you to be developing a attitude which stginks in such way. I see that you have got a picture of yourself on ebay and to be honest with you only a ****** would do that. Good luck and all the best.

Message: Hi I received this abusive mail after several messages between myself (user ID:lewyharvey) and seller (user ID:mad::censored:) Throughout the correspondense I was in no way was abusive to the seller, and therefore did not warrant such an abusive message. I would appreciate something being done about this as I have been a very reponsible, respected, member of the Ebay community for some 7 years, with an impeccable 100% feedback score of 610, and feel people should not be subjected to this sort of abuse! Here are earlier messages that led to this abusive one. Many thanks, LEWIS.

Dear lewyharvey,

Hi,

looking at our records we can see that your unit could not be repaired and you were refudned imedietly. We kept your file on records for when a replacment comes in but none have so we could not help you. This was just as a good will gesture and not in the paid service to do. We have tried work so hard to keep this account 100% but you have just ruined with the word untrustworthy. :censored: is a widely recommended company outside of ebay within many forums and i cannot have this feedback on the account. Please could you tell me why you have given us such feedback and what can we do to get this off. We are always on the phones and if we knew you were unhappy we would have tried our unpmost to help you through your problems, but to be called untrustworthy is just wrong./ We will try first to get this of our account a very professinal manner and hope we can do so.

Dear :censored:

The 1st time you repaired my unit it was sent to you as working but would only lose the time and trip etc. intermittently. You said this had been repaired but on return the unit was exactly the same as when I initially sent it to you. Upon request I returned the unit as it was covered by your warranty. You had it for 2 weeks and I must have called 6 times during this period. Every time I was told it would be returned within a couple of days. I then got a call saying the unit was fully working, but the repair could not be guaranteed as it had reset a few times. I was given a full refund which I appreciated. However by this time I was some £18 out of pocket owing to P&P charges. When I eventually got the unit back only the right side of display worked and has remained that way since. I explained this on the phone and was told I would be given a refurb at trade price. I accepted this but could not get the fact through to the guy on the phone that the unit was now damaged. When I initially sent the unit to you everything actually worked apart from the intermittent resetting, now only half the unit works! I feel very hard done by with the outcome of this failed repair, but was waiting on the provision of the refurbished unit. Over 6 weeks has gone by and nothing. Since you regard yourselves as one of the leading providers of this service this to me warrants negative feedback as you have damaged my unit, and failed miserably in providing a replacement. This feedback will remain until you provide me with the promised refurbished unit. If however within 2 weeks of this letter you haven't I will be seeking legal advice from my solicitor as how to proceed.

Dear lewyharvey,

Hi,

all i can say after you reply is this. You never rang us within the 6 weeks wait of yours to chase anything up and if you would have mentioned feedback we may have done something you never know. If this feedback is retracted then far enough i will get you a replacment at trade price within 48 hours. The feedback must be retracted first for me do even think to do this for you as if you didnt we lose out tottally. You can copy this reply for your solicitors if my word is not enough. Ill leave it to you as we may have only got negative and a few people have already commented saying that we have got hundreds of satisfied customers and we should not let just one trigger happy customer effect us as it wont, but i reaally do want this RED message of my feedback board.

28 July 2009 01:18
Dear :censored:

Firstly I did contact you on the phone up to 2 weeks after receiving the refund, I also messaged you through ebay. Secondly I don't like being held to ransome saying you will only get me a replacement when and if the feedback is removed! Thirdly I resent the 'trigger happy' reference as I have thought seriously over this. I have been registered with ebay for 7 years and have considerably more experience than you at this. The impression I got from my last conversation on the telephone was as though the damaged unit was now my problem! You didn't actually offer me a replacement this was only agreed after I insisted on it for sometime. Now miraculously you promise me one within 48 hrs after I've waited several weeks with no sign of you contacting me. Tell you what, keep your replacement, and keep your negative feedback. Thanks very much for showing what a great service you provide to your customers!

Summary:

I am sure you will agree this to be an unfair, uncalled for, abusive attitude. I trust you will deal with this seller in the manner fitting.
Many thanks for your help

Please do not deal with this company, nothing but hassle and trouble!!!!

Same problem

I have the same problem. Display flickering and at times dissapearing. My recorded mileage has also been changing. Currently risen to 174,000.

Thank you all for your horror stories.

I took advice from the forum and decided that as this is a "known" problem [even if Renault will not admit it!] I woul ring my main dealer.

My main dealer advised I ring Renault Support.

Renault Support were very pleasant and advised they required the problem to be diagnosed by a main dealer.

They said they would "discuss if they could help" after the problem was diagnosed.

The car is now booked in for diagnostics.

Fingers crossed.

I hope this helps someone else.

Newbie - Found my thread!

Looks like I've found the thread for my problem

I have a Grand Scenic 1.9dCi on a 54 plate.

Dashboard has been flicking off, then back on for a few days now, clock and trip resetting each time.

Got a message about the tyre pressure sensor error today, but that has now cleared (I don't have any tyre pressure sensors - they weren't in place when I got the car) the little wheel disappear while the error appeared but are since back.

I haven't noticed the mileage problem but will keep and eye on it, does this happen in all cases?

Going to call a renault electronic expert tomorrow to see if he can help - fingers crossed.

Any other advice welcome - thanks! :d

I had this problem on my Scenic and due to this website I was pointed in the right direction, Thanks!!

The problem started with the clock resetting and within a few days developed to the point where the dash wouldn't switch on without a hefty 'technical tap'. Anyway I found a company on Ebay advertising they could do the repair for £120.

This was cheaper than others and required a small leap of faith of whether they were upto the job as I couldn't see any previous refurbs in their history.

The unit was sent on the Monday, I had a phonecall Wednesday and an email saying it was being sent out and it was in the car working correctly on the Thursday.

I won't advertise the company as this would only get removed but 'tronix-pixel', would be familiar words to those who search ebay.

Thank You Renault Forums and its contributors for helping me getting my Scenic fixed and suffering little from the better half!!!

54 Scenic - flickering/dead display

Hi, my display was flickering for a couple of days before dying last Friday. I reckon the fuse has blown because my radio stalk is not functioning now.

I emailed Renault from their website on the Friday and phoned them on Tuesday (0800 072 3372) after the Bank Holiday. I was infomed that my email had been assigned and I would be called. After a few hours I called again and was given the same reply.

I then received a call from Nicki Bennett, the customer manager. She played it coy, asking what I expected her to do. I had explained in my email that I was aware this was a common problem and caused by faulty manufacturing, so I asked if Renault could repair or replace the instrument panel for free. She said that this problem for 54 to 55 plate Scenics was now so common that they would replace the panel free, but she first wanted it checked by a Renault garage to make sure that it was the panel at fault. She supplied a case reference to allow the garage to claim off Renault. They will only replace a panel and leave the mileage at zero, but they will send a letter stating this and what you reckon the mileage was before the failure.

Fingers crossed for next Tuesday!

54 Scenic - flickering/dead display

Hi, just an update on my experience at Renault.

Instrument panel was replaced free of charge. Still waiting for the covering letter to explain mileage restarting from zero.

Garage said it would charge 1 hour labour if no problem was found with the panel. As it only takes minutes to remove and replace, this must have been to cover the 'health check' that they gave the car to try and illicit some cash from me!

Just thought i'd add my 2 peneth worth. Ive had my scenic II for 2 years having bought it 2nd hand from a main dealer. The display went nipples north about a week ago.

I was refused any help what so ever from Renault Cust Serv as the vehicle is out of waranty and according to them high mileage (59,000 on a 04 plate!). Interestingly they tried to insinuate that external forces may have been at play... It's a sealed unit and the only external force applied to it of any significance was the resetting of the clock 5 times a day when it was approaching it's final demise.

The kind customer service chap also tried the "What we feel we can offer you is the money off a new vehicle, were you looking to buy a new vehicle any time soon...?" line. All I can say is that this particular chap must have trained at the 'Derren Brown School of Negotiation'; The very first thing that entered my mind when the dash went was how quickly I could get to the bank to stump up yet more cash for a new renault.

Spoke to trading standards today who suggested sending a standard letter quoting the Sales of Goods act 1979 and explaining that the vehicle was not fit for purpose - followed by court action if no resolution can be achieved.

We will see...

Hi
Mine too has gone blank two days ago, anywhere it's one problem after another needless to say really, but I called Renault and it seems it's now their new deal of customer paying £150 for the dash to be replaced, or is it? should I contest the paying since they were replacing some for free? please help!

Well I've been hanging back before posting on this as I didn't want to tempt fate. Many thanks to bigfeet whose post prompted me to write a letter addressed to Nikki Bennett at Renault UK.

We bought a 54 plate Scenc 1.9 DCi back in June from a local dealer. We were driving it through France on the first day of our holiday a few weeks back when the dash display started flickering on and off. I phoned my local dealer who said it would need replacing at £500. I had it looked at in Spain and was quoted 1000 Euros!

After browsing this thread I decided to email Renault stating I knew of someone else who they had replaced t for and that I would expect the same offer. I didn't get a reply so then wrote the letter.

A couple of days later I got a call from a nice bloke at Renault. He was similarly coy but spent a good while asking about how the fault occured, how long we had the car etc. He then spoke to the dealer and called me back.

The long and short is that he said that he wasn't aware of it being a known design flaw, and that every case was considered individually on its merits, and suggested forum reports were often incorrect. He then said that based on the fact that it was our first ever Renault and they wouldn't normally agree to pay for a repair out of warranty, he said if the dealer looked at it and confirmed it was the panel that they would, on this occasion, cover it as a goodwill gesture.

My wife took it down there today and it's all been done for no charge. In all honesty I can't complain at all about the service we've experienced. Glad it's all done anyway and would certainly recommend putting your case in writing if you have this problem. Many thanks to this forum, without which I'd be £500 worse off!

I have a Renault Scenic II 2004.

The dash kept flashing on and off.

Taken the car to Renault Dealer and they will change the dash for £100.

The dash has added 21,000 miles to the car.

The dealer has ordered the new dash but Im now worried about using the car incase it adds more mileage before the dash is done.

Hello. I'm from Portugal and own a Scenic II 1.5dci 2004. About 2 or 3 months ago the clock and meter counter resets every time i push start. Last Monday, all the display switch off. I went to the local Renault dealer and he told me that it needs a new display. the cost: 750€. He also told me he know a guy that should help me with my problem. so, this morning, i went there and he repaired the display for 125€ and until now its working fine but it's still early to have sure. the guy give me a warraty and also that all the displays he have repaired so far no one repeat the failure. Another thing he told me: all the displays of Scenic II will fail.
Before i went there i tried to understand where was the problem. I pull out the display and analised the circuit board but i didn't see anything wrong. I think it's a very simple detail because the guy only take 30min. to repair it. That guy could be rich. Half an hour of work --> 125€!!! He didn't told me what he has done, of course.
So if anyone knows the procedure, please share it with us.
Another thing: from monday until today the meter has more 5000 (+/-) Km without leaving the garage. only because i have pushed star a few times, when trying to understand the problem, so if you don't want this to happen, unpluged the display. if it's off with the failure, it doesn't mater to unplug it. the car works anyway. the technician told me that, so i went to his garage with the display unpluged.

Best regards.
Rui

Hi Guys,

Had the dash on my 06 scenic go in January, no flickering or warning just out she went. After reading various reasons for this i decided instead of taking it to Renault, to take it to a tv repair guy i know.
After doing 2 dry solder joints and replacing a 7amp fuse the dash was working. Total cost £20.
Maybe if you know someone whos handy with a solder iron, could be a cheaper alternative as surely the new £100 one from Renault will just go the same in a few years, or have they solved the problem with newer ones?
