I don't know if this has been posted before. I just managed to access the resistor pack in 5 mins, maybe less. Haynes reckon the dash top fascia needs to be removed, massive job. I avoided this.

I simply removed the two digital dash surrounds, then to the right of the digital display is quite a large hole. I shone a torch in here and there in front of my eyes was the connector for the resistor pack. Reached my arm in, disconnected it, have noticed slight burning on connector, so need to replace this. The connector has quite long cables, so reaches outside the dash for repair.

Removed resistor pack with torx screwdriver, appears to be OK, put all back together and is working now. But will need new loom section.

EDIT: See post 17 on for pics.

blower fan problem

i need to get the blower fan working on my scenic 1, it only works on full speed, ive had a quick squiz and cant see where the resistor pack is, can anyone tell me where to find it, and what to look for on the scenic one, its got air con as well. and im blowed if i can find this pollen filter under the passenger side glovebox, i see what seems to be the blower motor there, lots of wiring, but i cant see this centre bolt reffered to and nothing that looks like a pollen filter, is mine a freak car and got it somewhere else?.

Having done the pollen filter on my older and current Scenic I know what you mean but –

You have to get your head right under the dash and use a good light.

You should see a black plastic cover that is approx’ 200mm long x 40mm wide.
It has ribs/webs moulded onto it.
It will have an ‘’Arrow’’ embossed on it.
There will be a fixing - I had a self tapper on one car and a 7mm bolt head on the other.

Undo the fixing and slide the cover in the direction (or opposite) of the arrow
It will fall away and reveal the filter
Pull this down out of its box – you may need pliers to pull it, but be careful as a lot of crap may come out with it – my second car was full of dust/ leaves/muck etc.

I then blew mine out gently with an airline to clear it

Replacement is the opposite of the above

Hope that helps, good luck
I was going to take pictures but it’s difficult to get under there to do it!

Then pulled it out:

You're then left with this:

Look inside from the right hand side of the steering wheel and you'll see this loom of wires:

I've got small hands!

Here another view of the wires leading into the resistor pack.

Pinch both sides of the connector and it'll come out.

There is a section of loom available from Renault to replace this plug which is prone to melting. Renault parts personnel told me that the live feed is now shared across two terminals, i've yet to get one to find out.

Update, accessed the resistor pack itself tonight:

Looks like I have the modified resistor pack (replaced under warranty), but not the modded loom, which passes the live feed across 2 terminals. The pack has the 2 terminals waiting, but only 1 connected.

Hi to on and all!
I too have this resistor pack. Would i be right in saying i only have to get the new loom and splice?

Thanks very much for the pictures. I've just managed to replace the resistor pack and fit the modified loom to my Grand Scenic. You do need a thin arm to reach the resistor, and you need to cut the leads to the blower as the plug is not accessible. I managed to solder those. The leads on the new loom section are all the same colour so I matched them one at a time to the old plug positions. I connected those with screw strip connectors. The parts cost £96 from Renault. The blower works fine on all 4 speeds now. I just need to find out why the engine idles like a canal boat until I've covered about 20 miles and I'll have a very nice vehicle.

Thermal Fuse Rating

I checked mine today as my blower only works on 1 & 3, which is strange as 4 should always work. Noticed my thermal fuse was 216c instead of 192c not sure why this is but something to be aware of, Thanks for the info, Ste :d

Have checked everything and nothing burnt out or blown and still only 1 & 3 working, looks like i'll have to bite the bullet and go to renault, time to remorgatge!

Respect to this forum. Went out to my scenic today for a dry run. Pictures are great and was in to the connector in about 10 minutes. I have purchased the loom and resistor pack. I did notice the loom had an extra wire which has no connection at the resistor pack end. Presumably a generic connector for different models. Certainly the loom has an extra unused wire when connecting up a scenic.

Resistor Pack plug

The fan resently stopped working on speed 4, followed the photso and removed the resistor pack which checked out okay.
Checked the voltage to the plug and then noticed that the plug had melted slightly on pin 4.
I have manged to squeeze the pins together and getting the fan working again on speed 4.

Can you get spare plugs or will i need to replace the full loom - if so is this an easy job?
Also where would I get the spares from - direct from Renault or is there a cheaper alternative that anyone knows about?

You can get the replacement plug from Reno, this is prewired, so splices into the loom.
