To get the rear speakers out you need to take out the plastic trim on both sides that support the parcel shelf. Once that's out of the way you'll see the cup the speakers are attached to unscrews about 1/8 of a turn. The speakers are held on to this cup by 4 screws.
They cannot be accessed from above. If you've broken the cups I'd suggest a trip to the scrap yard to get a replacement set as they'll only rattle like mad when you put them back in.
I had not broken the cups, it was the moulded clips holding the entire plastic covers to the car by the rear quarter windows. I could see no way of getting to the clips to unsecure them!!
