Personally I don't like the big name nationals for "unspecified" work, fine for tyres, exhausts or a specific job they are tooled up for but still shop around.
And only once taken a car to one for an MOT and they tried to royally shaft me, only thing missing was the bar of soap on the shower floor
List as long as my arm and only two things on it I agreed with. Fixed them and got it MOTd at a little guy a week later, not even an advisory on the rest. Cost me a second MOT but fraction of cost if I'd let the national do what they'd said was needed.
I much prefer the little guys, their prices tend to be cheaper and even if they don't do MOTs themselves I'll guarantee they have a relationship with a local station.
Ask around, word of mouth is often a good recomendation.
