Might be worth having your battery "drop tested" - I had an alt problem with my Slag when I had her, and although I had a new alt fitted, the battery had become damaged, and although it was showing a reasonable float voltage, it just couldn't hold a charge.
Normal car batteries aren't designed for deep-cycle use (a deep cycle refers to a battery being discharged completely and then recharged again). Cycling a normal battery once probably won't hurt it, but three or four times can warp the plates in the cells, which can cause the problem you describe.
I stuck a new battery in there and never had the problem again.
