A lot depends on the type of running i.e open road vs taxi-ing, naturally one is more arduous than the other. As long as all the servicing has been carried out, then there should be little more risk than buying a low-mileage example.
Something you may wish to consider is how many miles that your Dad plans on covering each year - if it will be less than average, then by the time he plans to sell it, it won't be considered such a high-mileage car (it'll have averaged itself out). But if he plans to cover a greater than average annual mileage, then the value will be adjusted downwards accordingly.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
