If you test the sensors and they all seem ok the problem may well be the ABS pump itself. I had problems with the ABS pump on my car and other forum members have also suffered this, so it seems a common issue, not sure if the Mk I suffered from this problem as it might be a diffrerent unit.

I fixed my problem by changing the full ABS pump for a 2nd hand one from another car. Other members with the same problem only changed the ECU part of the unit and it cured their fault so it seems that the fault normally lies within the ECU part....So bear this in mind if it comes to changing the unit, try changing just the ECU part first as this saves a messy job and a lot of spilt brake fluid.

Hover over the "TOOLS" tab at the top of the page
> then in the dropdown click on "User Dashboard"
> click on "Edit Your Details" at the top Left hand side.
> scroll down to the "What's current in your garage?" box and enter your vehicle details.
> Once the details are entered scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes"

> Done.
