Almost Bought an '02 Scenic dCi - but...

Hello All.

This is my 1st post. I'm looking to repalce my Wife's '95 Citroen Synergie 1.9TD with a smaller car. We have looked at a 2002 Scenic dCi at a Renault Dealer, and I'm going back for a second look tomorrow.

I'm not sure of the exact model designation, but it's an '02 plate dCi, 72,000, solid red colour, climate control, leather seats, alloys but no sunroof.

I'd say overall it's in reasonable condition (not bad, but not great) e.g. a few small parking dings, a small scrape on the corner of the rear bumper wich has intruded in to rear wing and the interior could do with a clean, although the seats are fine. The price seems about right, the dealer has offered me a reasonable PX against the Synergie and has agreed to put a new cam belt on the car and provide a new MoT.

When we test drove the car it seemed so 'sluggish' and I'm comparing it to the 1.9TD Synergie and my '98 Escort Duratec 1.8TD - the Escort TD is commonly criticised as being being a 'slouch', but I think it pulls like a sports car compared to the Scenic (even the Synergie seems nippier!).
I'd add that the engine seemed to run smoothly and didn't emit smoke.

We are not looking for a sports car by any means, but I just expected better. I can't help wondering if the Scenic dCi is known for 'leisurely' performace?

Also grateful if anyone can give me any other pointers, potenial problems to look for.

My grateful thanks in advance.
