Re: 2006 Renault scenic handbrake warning when used manually

That's the procedure if you pull the yellow handle in the boot.

What the OP did, at least if I read it right, is used the manual release on the dashboard. Perfectly normal procedure though why it should raise a handbrake warning no idea beyond what I've already wrote.

If you are right and the OP did pull the yellow emergency release, yup, that's the procedure to reset.
To add a little info so pepes can understand.
Pulling the yellow emergency release disconnects the handbrake cables inside the motor unit.
There is a catch system that holds the cables together and a switch on that catch that tells the motor they are disconnected.
When you follow the reset procedure, you are overdriving the unit to the off position which re-engages the catch and allows the unit to pull the cables as it should.
In theory, the dashboard warning should disappear after a few operations of the brake but mixed reports if it does and it won't if there are faults, real or perceived by the electronics.
Currently in Dancingdad's garage:
Qashqai 1.6 spark driven, Kia Sedona 2.9 TDI, Scenic II 15DCi 2004 (SORN) not quite RIP.
