My bus has the 6spd box. Yes it did take a little getting used to, but it was more just me forgetting I had another cog to play with. Now it's second nature to pop it into 6th.
I don't have any experience of the petrol models, but my
burner is happy to plod along in 6th from anywhere around 50mph and has enough torque that it doesn't require a drop of gear at motorway speeds to quickly overtake.
I'm sure Renault marketed this box as being there to keep the engine in it's optimum "power band."
It does plod along happily in 6th but occasionally I find myself looking for another gear ....... habit or maybe I'm just being pro-active for when a 7spd box is introduced
