Yeah try that first.

If the nut is free when the parts are off, theres no reason it wont move when it's fitted.

Don't go mad when pressing the pedal, you don't want pistons popping out of the cylinders.

If you press on off a small amount, you might be able to see the adjuster working and the nut turning.
