Thank you both for your replies. On Monday afternoon I returned to the dealer to give the car a second viewing, and to be fair to them, they made me a coffee, gave me the keys and left me to it.

It does have 2 sunroofs and is I believe a Priveledge Monaco. I spent a good hour going over the car and it seems OK i.e. all electrics working, seats slide OK and no signs of water leaks. The engine starts easily, is quite quiet from cold start, no obvious leaks and no smoke.

I took it for another test drive, which included a run for a few miles on a quiet dual carriageway. My second impression was that from a standing start it still didn't seems as eager as my TD Escort, but reached 70mph easily enough and no smoke.

The dealer has agreed the following deal: good PX on the Synergie, will on the Scenic change cam belt, tensioners, water pump and give it an oil change (water pump may be OK, but at 72K miles I feel better be safe than sorry).

Last night to my horror I discovered the Paker's Guide forum about failing dCi turbos due to below par EGC and turbo oil feed pipes - are these turbo failures really that common?

The Scenic will come with a 1 year AA warranty which will include the turbo , I believe I have an option to extend the warranty to 2 years at my cost.
