Done some surface mount work in a prievious job....the sort of tools you need are a bit specialised i.e.
Tweezers (not pliers),magnifying glass,temperature controlled soldering iron.A steady hand and good eyesight.
The sort of damage that can be done ranges from a led overheated to destruction to a damaged pcb (faulty dash)
My advice is to practice on something first...if you have an old tv remote control laying around not used see if you can lift components off it and replace them....it is a skill that can be gained with patients and practice,be prepaired for failiures.
in a nutshell...get someone with the expertise to do it for you.
