Unhappy Laguna Gps

I have a 2002 Laguna Privilege, it is fitted with a Carminat Gps/radio and CD.

The display screen is not working, the renualt agent has looked at the car and suggested that a new screen and control unit is needed. Parts and labour 2100. This is nearly a third of what I paid for the car.

At present trying to locate s/h parts, but no luck so far.

I am not to worried about the Gps working as I have a garmin.

The radio/cd was working, but becuase the dealer disconnected the power to the radio it now requires the unlock code, which to imput needs the screen working !!!!.

If I can fiind cheap spares I guess I can remove the Gps and radio and fit a stand alone unit, will this cause any problems, I guess any new radio will not work with the arm at the steering wheel.

Hope someone can help, otherwise I love the car it replaced a Peugeot 405
