It could be down to terminology. You might be expecting it to do something that it's not designed to.
In Renault speak, 'keyless' is just a car that has a card instead of a key. You still have to press buttons on the card to lock and unlock the car, and you still have to stick the card in the slot to get it to start.
If they say it's 'handsfree' then you have the card that can stay in your pocket. If the car senses that the card is nearby then it will allow the doors to unlock when you try to open them. If the card is inside the car, then it will allow the car to start.
