Renault 19 - Engines - Misfire

Right as im new to the forum i hope there is someone that can help me out or point me out in the right direction.

I have a Renault 19 16v on an L plate (93) and there is a few pics in the My Motor Section.

Was out in the thing last night and all was well . . . Was driving non stop for about 4 hours and there was not a problem.

Was on a dual carraige way and i was going into an S bend so i dropped into second gear and once i was out the S bend i put the foot to the floor and then i relised i was loosing power. . . It sounded like a bag of **** so i pulled in and it was Miss firing its **** off and there was No power.

My mate is a Renault Machanic and he is going to look at it tomorrow but i find it rather starange as to why this wold happen after bringing it all the way from Liverpool to Edinburgh with NO problem and then drive for 4 hours without a problem untill going home.

The thing aint had a service since 2002 so maybe this is the problem ?

Its getting a full service - New Plugs, New HT leads, New Oil Filter, New Fuel Filter, New Air Filter & New Oil .
Also getting the Timing and alternator belts done too aswell as a engine flush and we are bleeding the cooling system too with fresh coolent.

If anyone can give me any clues or any help as to why it started Missfiring after so long or have any pointers what to look at if i aint listed them above please do so.

Thanks !

I had a similar problem on an old car and it turned out to be the head gasket.
