Welcome to the forum. The symptoms you describe can be attributed to coil pack failure. The toxic warning light can also mean unburnt fuel is entering the cat, again likely if the coils were playing up. As to the connection with fuel levels not sure? Perhaps the system was sucking air in and this was adding to the problem.
