Good post Donald,
It is surprising how many drivers know absolutely nothing about their car, (not surprising some don't know how to drive it either) If you are careful and always get a Haynes manual, (some people say they are useless but there not) you can do a lot of servicing and repairs that would cost a fortune in a garage.
As you said if anything is beyond you take it to the garage, your lucky building up a rapport with them aswell.
I used to be a mechanic many years ago and have done 99% of the work on all cars I have owned but after getting my Renault I had to ask for help on this forum.
Good luck with your Renault.
Currently in davesss's garage:
2002 Laguna Sports Tourer 1.8 Dynamique Moondust VF1KGOB, Fiat Siecento Micheal Schumaker, Kawasaki KLE M/Cycle and a cheap Mountain Bike.
