Apparently he has now said that the views of the public will be respected but that the petition misrepresented the actual facts about the road pricing issue.
Indeed it does, but just how many of the million plus people who've signed it actually looked at the wording?
I'd made my mind up on road charging policy before even hearing about the petition. I clicked on the link already knowing that I was going to add my name, and I bet that's true of the vast majority who have registered their protest against road pricing via the No.10 website. If they do play down the significance of this petition on the basis of the wording, then they'll be totally mis-reading the situation. Still, when it suits their ends, they're not beyond doing that.
