Scenic cam belt interval clarification

Hi, I have a March 2007 Scenic 1.5dci which has done 72k miles. I am receiving conflicting info about when to change the cambelt (+ associated parts). My service book states 96k or 6 years, which to me sounds a lot. My local Renault garage said 96k or 5 years, but recommended changing it sooner. A local independent garage specialising in Renault said the belt should be changed at 72k or 5 years. I don't want the belt to fail but also don't want to spend circa 300 on changing the item earlier than necessary. Please could someone clarify when I should get the belt changed? Many thanks.

Re: Scenic cam belt interval clarification

I would change it, better safe than sorry, and as you say 96 k is a high mileage, in the 05 Clio the DCi the cam belt change is at 72k mine was changed at 65k and was a bit on the worn side, change the alternator belt as well.

Who would design a vehicle that falls over when you stop?

If you find a fix for your problem please let us know it will help others.

Re: Scenic cam belt interval clarification

Thanks Ralph, I was thinking along the same lines - as you say, better safe than sorry! It's a pity Renault can't clarify what the interval should be for the 1.5dci, especially as all their other engines seem to need the belt changed at 72k/5yrs.
