Drive shaft getting hot

Hi, I have a renault scenic 2002 1400cc 16 valve.My problem is, after the car has been standing for a while everything seems ok but after driving a few miles when everything is warmed up as the car is going along there appears a kind of knocking sound on the front drivers side and there is a kind of dry springy sound after going over bumps or uneven road surfaces that sounds as if the shock absorber is dry. After having it checked there wasnt anything visible that could be found but the drive shaft on the drivers side was hotter than it should be. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

How hot should the driveshaft be ?
First guess on the driveshaft is probably no grease in the cv joints. Could possibly be the cause of the noise too.
More likely culprit for the noise over bumps is either anti rollbar drop links, or top strut bearings

Hello and welcome to the forum.

It would definately be worth pulling the gaiter off of the offside outer CV gaiter and seeing if theres any signs of water ingress or that the joint has dried out at all.Does the gaiter look orginal or has it been replaced at some stage?.

Does the noise get any worse if you pull away with the car on a full lock either way?.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Thanks for the reply, there is plenty of grease in the joints and the bearings on the end seem ok. The tip about the anti rollbar is worth me looking into though.... Thanks

The gaiter has been checked and there is plenty of grease, the car pulls off nice and smoothe and on full lock everything seems perfect.
